An evolving design language

Pixelgrade Pattern Language

A living language for making coherent, original sites across scales. Use it to read a composition, compare recurring solutions, and assemble a working language for the next site.

Move from whole pages to decisive details.

The map keeps every public stage visible. Solid entries are canonical; the others show where the language is still learning, merging, or changing its mind.

One catalogue, one pattern in focus.

15 patterns in view

What do the stages mean?
Canonical
Reviewed, recurrent, and validated through original composition.
Emerging
The invariant is visible, but a contradiction or composition test remains.
Field Note
A contextual observation whose broader claim is still deliberately small.
Merged, Retired, Contradicted
Useful history remains visible when the language changes its mind.

CandidateSectionField Note

Offset Three-Column Band

A statement and supporting lists need editorial tension, but placing every piece in a filled grid makes the section look procedural or tabular.

Context

Try this for services, facts, ingredients, or manifesto material where the statement should arrive first and the lists should answer from another axis.

Forces

  • Lists want alignment for scanning.
  • A large statement needs room to land.
  • Empty space can create hierarchy, but only when it is clearly structural.

Place the statement across the field, then arrange its supporting material in three tracks while leaving the first track deliberately empty. The empty track offsets the lists and becomes the counterweight to the statement.

Known expressions

The resolution is a field, not a frozen form. Start from what the situation asks for.

  1. 01

A wide statement followed by two compact service lists shifted to the right.

  2. 02

A color chapter with one empty track and two factual columns.

Watch for

  • Filling the empty track because it appears unused.
  • Lists become as loud as the statement.
  • Mobile order preserves the empty track instead of preserving the argument.

Evidence

3 reviewed contexts

Three reviewed uses show that the empty track changes the section's character. Responsive and generative use remains under-tested.
