Index Strips

A short list of capabilities or chapters needs energy and orientation, but a conventional list is too quiet and a card grid gives every item unnecessary bulk.

Context

Use this for compact indexes whose words can become the visual material of the section.

Forces

  • Readers need scan order and count.
  • Repetition creates texture but can obscure meaning.
  • Motion attracts attention but should not be required for comprehension.

Give each item one full-width typographic strip. Repeat its identifying word just enough to fill the field, use a small number as the stable anchor, and let the sequence—not separators—create rhythm.
