Managing Layout Elements
Mies makes enough room to play around with the layout elements as with any of our WordPress themes. We offer the creative freedom you need to build a website that fully represents you. However, we took a series of design decisions to help you start on the right foot.
In this article, we want to walk you through the Layouts Elements section.
Layouts Elements Section
To get your head around with this one, you need to land in the right spot. So here’s how you can start:
- Log in to the WordPress Dashboard;
- Go to Appearance → Customize → click on Layouts Elements;
- As you can see, you have four sections that you can explore: Header, Content, Archives, and Footer;
- Each of them includes a bunch of particular options (quite self-explanatory).
Next, we want to let you know about two opportunities you might consider. There are plenty of others, but we’d like to focus on what’s truly necessary. You can dig deeper anytime, that’s for sure.
Create a Sticky Header
If you consider creating a menu that should stick while navigating a page, here’s what you need to do:
- Log in to the WordPress Dashboard;
- Go to Appearance → Customize → click on Layouts Elements;
- Click on Header, and check the Always Show on Scroll (Sticky) checkbox;
- Hit Save & Publish to check out the changes.
This way, all the menu items are visible while scrolling down the page. Also, if you navigate the Portfolio section of your website, the menu items will turn into next and previous buttons alongside share options. Navigation becomes more intuitive, and readers get access in no time.
Give your website a better look
You can control the look and feel of your projects by changing the number of projects displayed per line with the option to adjust these settings according to the device your audience is using (laptop, tablets, phones).
- Log in to the WordPress Dashboard;
- Go to Appearance → Customize → click on Layouts Elements;
- Click on Archives, and play around with the columns’ drop-downs;
- Hit Save & Publish to check out the changes.
As you can see, you have a bunch of elements that influence the layout of your website. What’s important is always to take relevant decisions regarding what’s in and what’s out.
