4 seconds. That’s the amount of time you have to convince people to stay on your website and continue their journey. This is one of the reasons why you need to build the home page of your website carefully. In this article, we’ll try to lend a hand to make sure you’re on the right track, and everything runs smoothly.
Create a home page
Login into your WordPress Dashboard and go to Pages. Click on the Add new button and name the page. We suggest you use “Home”, “Welcome” or something similar that’s easy to understand.
Set your front page
Now you need to set the freshly created page on the front page of your website. By default, WordPress displays your latest posts there. To showcase your newly created static page named “Home”, please follow these simple steps:
- Go to Appearance → Customize and click on the Homepage Settings tab on the left.
- Under the Your homepage displays area select the A static page option, then choose your new page from the Homepage drop-down bellow.
- Click on the Publish button to save your changes.
Customize the home page
Further, you can create even more pages and set them as child pages for the “Home” page to add more information accompanied by beautiful hero images. By doing this you are turning our “Home” page into a multipage. Learn about the different templates approaches you can use for your child pages to understand how to create a homepage with multiple hero images.
A short or a long Home Page Menu?
There’s no standard in this area. As long as you stick to your business goals, you will create the perfect Home page menu for your upcoming websites. Just make sure you don’t lose users because you’re too cryptic or too generalist.
Can I have more multipages?
Of course. You can set up any number of multipages you like, but make sure you reach a goal by doing this. Otherwise, there’s no fun in having multipages just for the sake of playing around.
