Installing Pixelgrade LT

We want to help you start on the right foot to enjoy your Pixelgrade LT site fully. That's why you need to make sure you have a solid foundation for what's next by installing WordPress, the theme you've chosen, and the right plugins. In this article, I will walk you through a friendly process of setting up the theme in a way that's correct and trustworthy.

Step 1 — Install WordPress

The process of installing WordPress is quite easy and friendly; no need to worry about that. Most web host providers give you a helping hand and automatically achieve this first step so you can immediately start playing with the content. However, if it's your first time dealing with it and you need an in-depth guideline, we recommend checking out this one.

Step 2 — Install and activate Anima LT

Anima LT is free on WordPress.org, so you can install it straight from your dashboard — no download or account needed:

  1. Go to Appearance → Themes and click Add New Theme.
  2. Search for Anima LT.
  3. Click Install, then Activate.

Prefer to install from a file? You can download the theme from its official page at wordpress.org/themes/anima-lt, then use Appearance → Themes → Add New Theme → Upload Theme to install the .zip.

You'll see "Anima" — that's correct. Your Pixelgrade LT site is built on the Anima block theme, the shared editing engine behind every Pixelgrade LT design. Seeing Anima listed under Appearance → Themes is expected — it's the foundation your site sits on top of, not a wrong install.

Step 3 — Finish setup with Pixelgrade Assistant

Right after you activate Anima LT, WordPress shows a prompt at the top of your dashboard to install the Pixelgrade Assistant plugin — this is what powers your in-dashboard experience. Click to install it, then activate it. (If you dismiss the prompt, you can always add it later from Plugins → Add New — search for Pixelgrade Assistant.)

Once Pixelgrade Assistant is active, open Appearance → Pixelgrade Design to reach your hub. The hub opens on the Home tab — a site command center with status cards and quick links across the tabs Home, Design System, Starter Sites, Layouts, Page Patterns, Setup, Account, and Help. From here, work through these:

  1. Connect your account (optional). Open the Account tab and click Connect account to link a pixelgrade.com account. This is what support and account services use to recognize your site. Premium features, licenses, and updates are handled by Pixelgrade Plus — the Account tab carries a small PLUS badge when it's installed.
  2. Install the recommended plugins. Pixelgrade Assistant surfaces the plugins your theme works best with (such as Style Manager and Nova Blocks). Install and activate the ones it recommends.
  3. Import a starter site (optional). On the Home tab, click Browse Starter Sites to open the Starter Sites tab. Pick a starter, then click Apply Full Site to bring in its demo pages, layouts, and styles in one go. The import finishes with a View your site step so you can see the result right away.

Have Pixelgrade Plus? Pixelgrade Plus is a premium plugin, so it isn't on WordPress.org. If you've purchased it, download it from your pixelgrade.com account (My Account), then install it like any plugin via Plugins → Add New → Upload Plugin and activate it. It adds licenses, premium assets, and advanced controls to your hub — everything in this guide works without it.

Where styling lives. This is a block theme, so colors, fonts, and spacing are edited in Style Manager — open it from the hub's Design System tab with the Open Style Manager button, or via Appearance → Editor → Styles.

FAQs

Unable to create the directory? Theme install failed.

There are a bunch of reasons why you can't install the theme directly through the WordPress Dashboard, such as limited writing permissions. To overwrite this behavior, you need to copy the theme files directly through FTP, as explained below.

  • First thing first, you need to get an FTP client like FileZilla or CyberDuck — both are free and cross-platform compatible software.
  • The second phase is to access the web host server and locate the WordPress installation. Then upload the unzipped theme in ../wp-content/themes/ folder.
  • Right after navigate to the Appearance → Themes section and click on the Activate button.
