What’s the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org?

WordPress is a publishing platform that makes it easy for anyone to publish online and proudly powers millions of websites. It comes in two flavors: the fully hosted WordPress.com and the self-hosted version, whose software is available for free at WordPress.org.

Using the WordPress.com platform, you can publish your blog in just a couple of minutes, but keep in mind that there are some limitations to what you can do depending on the pricing plan you choose.

On the other hand, if you’re looking to create a website that comes with all the features WordPress has to offer, you will need to use the WordPress.org version. You can download the WordPress software for free and install it on a web server (hosting). Most hosting providers offer WordPress installed out of the box, so you can avoid the hassle of doing it yourself. Here’s a list of great hosting recommendations.
