How to use the Excerpt in WordPress?

There are a few of Word­Press’ core func­tion­al­i­ties that can help you bet­ter man­age your con­tent. There­fore, in the next few lines, we want to show you how you can eas­i­ly cus­tomize the auto-gen­er­at­ed con­tent from the archive’s posts (includ­ing how to delete it in no time).

Before start­ing, please bear in mind that Word­Press auto­mat­i­cal­ly dis­plays a part of your post, and the default lim­it is 55 words. You can eas­i­ly change it by adding your pre­ferred piece of con­tent or delet­ing it entire­ly.

Change the Excerpt

To change the excerpt con­tent from one of your posts, fol­low the steps below:

  • Log into Word­Press Dash­board
  • Go to Posts → Add new → click on Screen Options but­ton (on top right cor­ner) and mark the Excerpt check­box.

Now, at the end of the post, you have an Excerpt field where you can add one or two lines of the con­tent you think will grab atten­tion or cor­rect­ly rep­re­sent the essence of the sto­ry. Check out this quick video to see the result.
