How to use the Excerpt in WordPress?

There are a few of WordPress’s core functionalities that can help you better manage your content. Therefore, in the next few lines, we want to show you how you can easily customize the auto-generated content from the archive’s posts (including how to delete it in no time).

Before starting, please bear in mind that WordPress automatically displays a part of your post, and the default limit is 55 words. You can easily change it by adding your preferred piece of content or deleting it entirely.

Change the Excerpt

To change the excerpt content from one of your posts, follow the steps below:

  • Log into WordPress Dashboard
  • Go to Posts → Add new → click on Screen Options button (on top right corner) and mark the Excerpt checkbox.

Now, at the end of the post, you have an Excerpt field where you can add one or two lines of the content you think will grab attention or correctly represent the essence of the story. Check out this quick video to see the result.
